“Invest yourself in everything you do. There’s fun in being serious.”
Nathan started playing drums at age 13 while living in the western suburbs of Chicago. What started as a hobby with neighborhood friends grew into a career as a performer and educator. He is inspired by drummers including Carter Beauford, Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, Kris Myers and Dave Grohl not only for their dedication to the craft, playing style, and committed work ethic. Nathan attended college at Northern Arizona University where he studied with great local players, making a name for himself in the local scene. Shortly after graduation he relocated to San Diego, CA., to pursue music and a rich livelihood. Nathan has recorded multiple albums and toured the United States with notable artists and bands: Brothers Gow, Marcus Rezak, Shred is Dead, The Higgs, Lowcash, The Broken Stems, Tiger & the Teller, Nikki Wilkins, Foot Souljahs, Breadbox, Gravy and others.
As an educator Nathan teaches all aspects of rhythmic theory and a wide array of genres. Using modern technology and his unique style of teaching, even the most beginner level students discover the joy of music through the drums. He has helped hundreds of drummers at all levels further their discipline and go on to play in school concert, jazz and marching bands, as well as rock bands that perform locally and abroad. In 2017 Nathan co-founded the Brothers Gow Music Foundation, an organization that raises money to provide instruments in elementary schools across San Diego.
When Nathan is not behind the drum kit, he enjoys freediving, hiking, cooking for family and friends, and exploring the amazing city of San Diego.
